Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तथेति च प्रतिज्ञाय तं परिष्वज्य सादरम् ।
शत्रुघ्नं च परिष्वज्य भरतं चेदमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-११२-२६॥
Tatheti ca pratijñāya taṃ pariṣvajya sādaram । Śatrughnaṃ ca pariṣvajya bharataṃ cedamabravīt ॥ ॥2-112-26॥
Translation
"So be it," promised Rama, and embracing him (Bharata) affectionately, and also embracing Shatrughna, he spoke this to Bharata.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम ने "तथा इति" (ऐसा ही हो) कहकर प्रतिज्ञा की और भरत का आदरपूर्वक आलिंगन किया। फिर शत्रुघ्न का आलिंगन करके उन्होंने भरत से यह (अगला श्लोक) कहा।
English Commentary
This verse marks the acceptance of Bharata's ultimatum. By saying "Tatha iti" (So be it), Rama solemnly binds himself to return exactly on time, acknowledging the gravity of Bharata's vow to enter fire otherwise. The embrace that follows is poignant; it is a seal on this life-or-death pact. Rama embraces both Bharata and Shatrughna with sādaram (respect/affection). Embracing Shatrughna is significant as he has been the silent sufferer and support for Bharata throughout this ordeal. This moment concludes the debate; the terms of the exile and the regency are now set in stone, ratified by the mutual love and trust of the brothers.

यह श्लोक एक संधि (pact) पर मुहर लगाता है। भरत ने पिछली आयतों में शर्त रखी थी कि यदि राम 14 वर्ष पूरे होने पर तुरंत नहीं लौटे, तो वे आत्मदाह कर लेंगे। राम ने 'तथेति' (वैसा ही हो) कहकर इस भयानक शर्त को स्वीकार किया। यह राम के आत्मविश्वास और समय के प्रति उनकी पाबंदी को दर्शाता है। इसके बाद का आलिंगन कोई सामान्य मिलन नहीं, बल्कि विदाई का आलिंगन है। राम ने शत्रुघ्न को भी गले लगाया, जो अब तक मौन थे। यह दृश्य भाइ्यों के बीच के अटूट प्रेम और एक-दूसरे के प्रति बलिदान की भावना को रेखांकित करता है। राम ने भरत की शर्तों के आगे झुककर यह सिद्ध किया कि प्रेम में हारना भी जीत है।
