स धन्यो यस्य पुत्रौ द्वौ धर्मज्ञौ धर्मविक्रमौ ।
श्रुत्वा वयं हि सम्भाषामुभयो: स्पृहयामहे ॥ ॥२-११२-३॥
Sa dhanyo yasya putrau dvau dharmajñau dharmavikramau । Śrutvā vayaṃ hi sambhāṣāmubhayoḥ spṛhayāmahe ॥ ॥2-112-3॥
Translation
Blessed is he (Dasharatha) who has two such sons, knowers of Dharma and virtuous in their valor. Having heard their conversation, even we desire (such character).
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह (दशरथ) धन्य है जिसके ऐसे दो धर्मज्ञ और धर्म-पराक्रमी पुत्र हैं। इन दोनों का वार्तालाप सुनकर हम भी (ऐसी भावना की) कामना करते हैं।
English Commentary
The celestial observers declare King Dasharatha 'blessed' (dhanya), despite his tragic death, solely because he fathered two such sons. The epithets used here are profound: dharmajñau (knowers of righteousness) and dharmavikramau (those whose valor is rooted in righteousness). This indicates that their strength is not merely physical but moral. The statement that even the sages 'desire' (spṛhayāmahe) upon hearing their conversation implies that the level of selflessness displayed by Rama and Bharata is rare even in the higher realms. It underscores the Vedic ideal that a father achieves immortality and fame through the virtuous deeds of his sons. The dialogue is so pure that it captivates the minds of those who have already transcended worldly attachments.

यह श्लोक स्वर्गीय राजा दशरथ के प्रति एक श्रद्धांजलि है। यद्यपि दशरथ की मृत्यु हो चुकी है और वे भौतिक रूप से वहां उपस्थित नहीं हैं, फिर भी सिद्धगण उन्हें 'धन्य' मानते हैं। इसका कारण उनके पुत्रों का चरित्र है। यहाँ 'धर्मविक्रमौ' शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है; इसका अर्थ है कि उनका पराक्रम और शक्ति केवल युद्ध के लिए नहीं, बल्कि धर्म की स्थापना और पालन के लिए है। सिद्ध और ऋषि, जो स्वयं ज्ञान के सागर हैं, स्वीकार करते हैं कि राम और भरत का संवाद (सम्भाषा) सुनकर वे भी ईर्ष्या मिश्रित प्रशंसा से भर गए हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि राम और भरत का त्याग इतना महान है कि वह स्वर्ग के निवासियों के लिए भी दुर्लभ और स्पृहणीय (इच्छा करने योग्य) है। यह दशरथ की पितृत्व की सर्वोच्च सफलता का प्रमाण है।
