मन्दाकिनीं नदीं रम्यां प्राङ्मुखास्ते ययुस्तदा ।
प्रदक्षिणं च कुर्वाणाश्चित्रकूटं महागिरिम् ॥ ॥२-११३-३॥
Mandākinīm nadīṃ ramyāṃ prāṅmukhāste yayustadā । Pradakṣiṇaṃ ca kurvāṇāścitrakūṭaṃ mahāgirim ॥ ॥2-113-3॥
Translation
Facing east, they departed, circumambulating the delightful Mandakini river and the great mountain Chitrakoot.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे पूर्व दिशा की ओर मुख करके (प्राङ्मुखा:) रमणीय मन्दाकिनी नदी और चित्रकूट महागिरि की प्रदक्षिणा करते हुए चले।
English Commentary
Before leaving the sacred vicinity of Rama’s exile, the entourage performs a ritual circumambulation (pradakṣiṇa) of Mount Chitrakoot and the Mandakini river. This act elevates the landscape itself to the status of a deity because of its association with Rama. Facing east (prāṅmukhāḥ) is auspicious for commencing a journey. It signifies that they are leaving with a sense of reverence and sanctity, carrying the holy vibes of the place back to the capital. It is a respectful farewell to the environment that is now the custodian of their King.

प्रस्थान करते समय तीर्थ का सम्मान करना भारतीय संस्कृति का अंग है। भरत और उनका दल चित्रकूट और मन्दाकिनी नदी की 'प्रदक्षिणा' (परिक्रमा) करता है। चित्रकूट अब सामान्य पर्वत नहीं रहा, यह राम का निवास स्थान बन गया है, इसलिए यह पूजनीय है। 'प्राङ्मुखा:' (पूर्वमुखी) होकर चलना शुभ माना जाता है, और वे अयोध्या (जो उत्तर-पूर्व में है) की ओर लौट रहे हैं। यह विदाई एक धार्मिक अनुष्ठान की तरह संपन्न की जा रही है। राम को पीठ दिखाने से पहले, वे उस भूमि को नमन करते हैं जिसने राम को शरण दी है।
