Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पश्यन् धातुसहस्राणि रम्याणि विविधानि च ।
प्रययौ तस्य पार्श्वेन ससैन्यो भरतस्तदा ॥ ॥२-११३-४॥
Paśyan dhātusahasrāṇi ramyāṇi vividhāni ca । Prayayau tasya pārśvena sasainyo bharatastadā ॥ ॥2-113-4॥
Translation
Then Bharata, accompanied by his army, proceeded along its side, looking at the thousands of delightful and diverse minerals (of the mountain).
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब भरत अपनी सेना के साथ, (पर्वत की) हजारों प्रकार की रमणीय और विविध धातुओं (minerals/ores) को देखते हुए उसके बगल (पार्श्व) से गुजरे।
English Commentary
As Bharata travels alongside the mountain (tasya pārśvena), he observes the natural beauty of Chitrakoot, specifically its colorful mineral deposits (dhātusahasrāṇi). This observation serves a narrative purpose: it validates Chitrakoot as a worthy, albeit austere, residence for Rama. It also reflects Bharata's slightly more composed state of mind compared to his arrival. He is now taking in the details of the environment that will shelter his brother for the next fourteen years, perhaps finding some solace in the beauty of the landscape that Rama now calls home.

लौटते समय भरत की दृष्टि चित्रकूट की सुंदरता पर पड़ती है। वे 'धातुसहस्राणि' (हजारों प्रकार की रंग-बिरंगी गेरू/धातुओं) को देखते हैं जिनसे पर्वत सुशोभित है। पहले जब वे आए थे, तो उनका मन केवल राम को खोजने में लगा था, संभवतः तब उन्होंने इस सुंदरता पर ध्यान नहीं दिया होगा। अब, जब मन शांत है और निर्णय हो चुका है, वे उस स्थान की रमणीयता को देख पा रहे हैं जहाँ उनके भाई निवास करेंगे। यह अवलोकन एक तरह से राम के चुनाव (choice) की सराहना भी है कि राम ने रहने के लिए एक सुंदर तपोभूमि चुनी है।
