Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तमाश्रममागम्य भरद्वाजस्य बुद्धिमान् ।
अवतीर्य रथात् पादौ ववन्दे भरतस्तदा ॥ ॥२-११३-६॥
Sa tamāśramamāgamya bharadvājasya buddhimān । Avatīrya rathāt pādau vavande bharatastadā ॥ ॥2-113-6॥
Translation
Arriving at the hermitage of Bharadvaja, the wise Bharata descended from his chariot and then bowed to the sage's feet.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस बुद्धिमान भरत ने भरद्वाज के आश्रम पहुंचकर, रथ से उतरकर, तब (मुनि के) चरणों की वंदना की।
English Commentary
Bharata demonstrates his adherence to Vedic etiquette. Upon reaching the ashram, he immediately descends from his chariot (avatīrya rathāt). One does not enter a holy space or approach a Guru while seated on a high vehicle. He bows to the sage's feet. The epithet buddhimān (wise) suggests that Bharata understands the importance of spiritual blessings. Even though he is carrying the "Sandals of the King," he remains a humble disciple in the presence of a realized sage. This visit serves as a debriefing session with the sage who initiated the reunion.

भरत को यहाँ 'बुद्धिमान' कहा गया है। उनकी बुद्धिमत्ता इसमें है कि वे दुख में भी मर्यादा नहीं त्यागते। राजा (या राजा के प्रतिनिधि) होने के बावजूद, ऋषि के आश्रम के बाहर रथ से उतरना ('अवतीर्य रथात्') और पैदल जाकर प्रणाम करना ('पादौ ववन्दे') भारतीय शिष्टाचार का प्रतीक है। भरत जानते हैं कि ऋषियों का आशीर्वाद राज्य की स्थिरता के लिए आवश्यक है। वे भरद्वाज को अपनी व्यथा और राम के निर्णय के बारे में बताने के लिए उत्सुक हैं, ताकि ऋषि का मार्गदर्शन और सांत्वना प्राप्त कर सकें। यह श्लोक भरत की विनयशीलता को पुनः स्थापित करता है।
