प्रभाकराद्यै: सुस्निग्धै: प्रज्वलद्भिरिवोत्तमै: ।
वियुक्तां मणिभिर्जात्यैर्नवां मुक्तावलीमिव ॥ ॥२-११४-१०॥
Prabhākarādyaiḥ susnigdhaiḥ prajvaladbhirivottamaiḥ |
Viyuktāṃ maṇibhirjātyairnavāṃ muktāvalīmiva ॥2-114-10॥
Translation
(Ayodhya looked) like a new necklace of pearls stripped of its dazzling, smooth, and high-quality gems such as rubies (which shine like the sun).

(अयोध्या ऐसी लग रही थी) जैसे कोई नई मोतियों की माला (मुक्तावली) हो, जिससे सूर्य के समान चमकने वाले, चिकने और उत्तम कोटि के बहुमूल्य रत्न निकाल लिए गए हों।
English Commentary
Ayodhya is compared to a 'muktāvalī' (pearl necklace). The 'gems' that gave it value and luster were Dasharatha and Rama, described here as 'prabhākara' (sun-like/rubies). A necklace stripped of its central jewels is merely a thread, bereft of beauty. The use of 'navāṃ' (new) suggests that the glory of Ayodhya was about to be renewed with the coronation, but instead, it has been denuded of its finest ornaments, leaving it dull and worthless in Bharata's eyes.

अयोध्या एक सुसज्जित नगरी थी, जिसकी तुलना 'नवां मुक्तावली' (नई मोतियों की माला) से की गई है। इसमें जड़े हुए 'मणि' थे—दशरथ और राम। 'प्रभाकर' का अर्थ है सूर्य (माणिक्य)। जैसे रत्नों के बिना माला केवल धागा मात्र रह जाती है, उसका कोई मूल्य या सौंदर्य नहीं रहता, वैसे ही राम और दशरथ के बिना अयोध्या श्रीहीन हो गई है। माला 'नई' है, अर्थात अभी तो राज्य का नया दौर (राम का राज्य) शुरू होना था, लेकिन शुरू होने से पहले ही रत्न खो गए।
