वृक्णभूमितलां निम्नां वृक्णपात्रै: समावृताम् ।
उपयुक्तोदकां भग्नां प्रपां निपतितामिव ॥ ॥२-११४-१५॥
Vṛkṇabhūmitalāṃ nimnāṃ vṛkṇapātraiḥ samāvṛtām |
Upayuktodakāṃ bhagnāṃ prapāṃ nipatitamiva ॥2-114-15॥
Translation
(Ayodhya looked) like a collapsed water-shed (prapā), with its foundation broken, covered with shattered vessels, and its water exhausted.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(अयोध्या ऐसी लग रही थी) जैसे कोई प्याऊ (प्रपा) टूटकर गिर पड़ी हो; जिसका चबूतरा (भूमितल) टूट गया हो, बर्तन (पात्र) फूटकर बिखरे हों और जिसका पानी पूरी तरह पी लिया गया हो (या समाप्त हो गया हो)।
English Commentary
A 'prapā' is a public water station, a symbol of charity and sustenance for travelers. Ayodhya is likened to a collapsed prapā. Its foundation ('bhūmitalāṃ') is broken, vessels shattered, and water gone ('upayuktodakāṃ'). This implies that the city, which once nourished and supported its people, has physically and structurally collapsed. It can no longer offer solace or sustenance. The image conveys total functional failure and the loss of the city's benevolent character.

'प्रपा' (प्याऊ) वह स्थान है जहाँ थके हुए यात्रियों को जल मिलता है। अयोध्या आश्रय और शांति का स्रोत थी। अब वह 'निपतितामिव' (गिरी हुई) है। 'उपयुक्तोदकां' (जिसका पानी इस्तेमाल हो चुका है) का अर्थ है कि अब यहाँ कोई संसाधन या आशा नहीं बची। टूटे हुए बर्तन और धंसी हुई जमीन ('निम्नां') विध्वंस का दृश्य प्रस्तुत करते हैं। यह उपमा सार्वजनिक सेवा और परोपकार के ढांचे के ढह जाने की ओर संकेत करती है। राज्य अब किसी की प्यास बुझाने (दुःख हरने) में सक्षम नहीं है।
