राहुशत्रो: प्रियां पत्नीं श्रिया प्रज्वलितप्रभाम् ।
ग्रहेणाभ्युत्थिते नैकां रोहिणीमिव पीडिताम् ॥ ॥२-११४-३॥
Rāhuśatroḥ priyāṃ patnīṃ śriyā prajvalitaprabhām |
Graheṇābhyutthite naikāṃ rohiṇīmiva pīḍitām ॥2-114-3॥
Translation
(Ayodhya looked) like Rohini, the beloved wife of the Moon (enemy of Rahu), who, though usually blazing with splendor, now appears lonely and tormented when seized by the planet (Rahu during an eclipse).

(अयोध्या ऐसी लग रही थी) जैसे चन्द्रमा (राहुशत्रु) की प्रिय पत्नी रोहिणी, जो अपनी शोभा से सदा चमकती रहती है, उग्र ग्रह (राहु) द्वारा ग्रसित होने पर अकेली और पीड़ित दिखाई दे।
English Commentary
A celestial metaphor is used here. Ayodhya is compared to 'Rohini,' the favorite constellation/wife of the Moon. Just as Rohini loses her brilliance and looks isolated when eclipsed by Rahu (the shadow planet), Ayodhya has lost its splendor without its Moon (Rama/Dasharatha). The contrast between 'prajvalitaprabhām' (blazing with glory) and 'pīḍitām' (tormented/afflicted) highlights the sudden and tragic reversal of the city's fortune. It suggests a temporary but terrifying darkness has swallowed the city's soul.

यह एक खगोलीय उपमा है। अयोध्या की तुलना 'रोहिणी' नक्षत्र से की गई है जो चन्द्रमा (दशरथ/राम) की प्रिय है। जैसे ग्रहण लगने पर रोहिणी की चमक फीकी पड़ जाती है और वह 'एकाम्' (अकेली) रह जाती है, वैसे ही राम और दशरथ के बिना अयोध्या की शोभा (कांति) ग्रहणग्रस्त हो गई है। 'श्रिया प्रज्वलितप्रभाम्' (शोभा से चमकने वाली) अयोध्या का भूतकाल है, और 'पीडिताम्' (पीड़ित) उसका वर्तमान है। यह उपमा राजलक्ष्मी के मलीन होने का संकेत देती है।
