भरत: शिरसा कृत्वा संन्यासं पादुके तत: ।
अब्रवीद्दु:खसन्तप्त: सर्वं प्रकृतिमण्डलम् ॥२-११५-१५॥
bharataḥ śirasā kṛtvā sannyāsaṃ pāduke tataḥ |
abravīdduḥkhasantaptaḥ sarvaṃ prakṛtimaṇḍalam ॥2-115-15॥
Translation
Then, bowing his head to that trust in the form of the sandals, Bharata, tormented by grief, addressed the entire circle of subjects.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब भरत ने उस धरोहर रूपी पादुकाओं को सिर पर धारण करके, दुःख से संतप्त होते हुए सम्पूर्ण प्रजा-समूह (प्रकृतिमण्डल) से कहा।
English Commentary
Bharata physically acknowledges the receipt of the trust by placing the sandals on his head ("shirasa kritva"). Addressing the "prakritimandalam" (the circle of citizens/subjects) while being "duhkhasantaptah" (sorrow-stricken) creates a poignant scene. It shows a leader who performs his duty amidst personal agony. He calls the assembly to witness that he is merely the custodian, ensuring that the entire kingdom understands the nature of his interim rule—a regency grounded in devotion, not ambition.

भरत ने पादुकाओं को पुनः सिर से लगाया, जो इस बात की पुष्टि है कि उन्होंने उस 'न्यास' (धरोहर) को स्वीकार कर लिया है। 'दु:खसन्तप्त:' (दुःख से जलते हुए) विशेषण यह याद दिलाता है कि यद्यपि वे राज्य का दायित्व ले रहे हैं, उनका व्यक्तिगत दुःख कम नहीं हुआ है। उन्होंने 'प्रकृतिमण्डल' (प्रजा वर्ग/मंत्रिगण) को संबोधित किया। यह एक सार्वजनिक घोषणा थी, ताकि राज्य का प्रत्येक व्यक्ति यह जान ले कि वास्तविक शासक कौन है। भरत की पारदर्शिता और प्रजा के प्रति उत्तरदायित्व यहाँ दृष्टिगोचर होता है।
