एवं तु विलपन् दीनो भरत: स महायशा: ।
नन्दिग्रामे ऽकरोद्राज्यं दु:खितो मन्त्रिभि: सह ॥२-११५-२२॥
evaṃ tu vilapan dīno bharataḥ sa mahāyaśāḥ |
nandigrāme 'karodrājyaṃ duḥkhito mantribhiḥ saha ॥2-115-22॥
Translation
Wailing thus, the highly illustrious Bharata, though wretched and sorrowful, ruled the kingdom from Nandigrama together with his ministers.

इस प्रकार विलाप करते हुए, वह महायशस्वी भरत, दीन और दुखी होकर मंत्रियों के साथ नन्दिग्राम में राज्य करने लगे।
English Commentary
The concluding verse presents a striking paradox. Bharata is "mahayashah" (glorious) yet "dinah" (wretched/pitiable) in his own eyes. He rules while "vilapan" (lamenting). This establishes the tone of his regency: it is a reign of sorrowful duty. He does not rule from the throne but from exile in Nandigrama, and acts in concert with ministers ("mantribhih saha"), indicating a consultative governance. This image of the sorrowful, ascetic king captures the essence of Bharata's character—greatness achieved through self-denial.

यह श्लोक इस सर्ग का उपसंहार है। वाल्मीकि भरत को 'महायशा:' (महान यश वाले) कहते हैं, यद्यपि भरत स्वयं को 'दीन' (बेचारा) महसूस कर रहे हैं। 'विलपन्' (विलाप करते हुए) और 'दु:खितो' (दुखी होकर) राज्य करना एक अद्भुत विरोधाभास है। सामान्यतः राजा उत्साह और गर्व के साथ शासन करता है, किन्तु भरत तपस्या और विरह वेदना के साथ शासन कर रहे हैं। वे अकेले निर्णय नहीं लेते, बल्कि 'मन्त्रिभि: सह' (मन्त्रियों के साथ) मिलकर, राम के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में नन्दिग्राम से व्यवस्था संभालते हैं। यह रामराज्य की नींव है।
