दर्शयन्ति हि बीभत्सै: क्रूरैर्भीषणकैरपि ।
नानारूपैर्विरूपैश्च रूपैर्विकृतदर्शनै: ॥ ॥२-११६-१४॥
Darśayanti hi bībhatsaiḥ krūrairbhīṣaṇakairapi । Nānārūpairvirūpaiśca rūpairvikṛtadarśanaiḥ ॥ ॥2-116-14॥
Translation
They appear before the ascetics in forms that are disgusting, cruel, terrifying, varied, deformed, and hideous to behold.

वे (राक्षस) वीभत्स, क्रूर, भीषण, नाना प्रकार के, विकृत और डरावने रूप बनाकर तपस्वियों को दिखाई देते हैं (उन्हें डराते हैं)।
English Commentary
This verse describes the psychological warfare employed by the Rakshasas. They use their shape-shifting abilities not just to attack, but to terrorize. The adjectives bībhatsa (loathsome/disgusting) and vikṛtadarśanaiḥ (hideous in appearance) suggest that the demons intend to pollute the visual and mental sanctity of the hermitage. For sages dedicated to purity and meditation, the mere sight of such grotesquerie is a violation of their spiritual environment, designed to break their concentration and resolve.

राक्षसों के अत्याचार केवल शारीरिक नहीं, बल्कि मनोवैज्ञानिक (psychological) भी हैं। वे अपनी मायावी शक्ति का प्रयोग कर 'बीभत्स' (घृणास्पद) और 'विरूप' (कुरूप) रूप धारण करते हैं ताकि ऋषियों की समाधि भंग हो सके। सात्विक वृत्ति वाले ऋषियों के लिए ऐसी तामसिक और विकृत छवियों का दर्शन ही अत्यंत कष्टकारी होता है। यह श्लोक राक्षसों की 'कामरूप' (इच्छानुसार रूप बदलने की) शक्ति और उनकी विकृत मानसिकता को उजागर करता है।
