तेषु तेष्वाश्रमस्थानेष्वबुद्धमवलीय च ।
रमन्ते तापसांस्तत्र नाशयन्तो ऽल्पयेतस: ॥ ॥२-११६-१६॥
Teṣu teṣvāśramasthāneṣvabuddhamavalīya ca । Ramante tāpasāṃstatra nāśayanto 'lpayetasaḥ ॥ ॥2-116-16॥
Translation
Hiding unnoticed in various parts of the hermitages, those mean-minded ones take delight in destroying the ascetics there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे नीच बुद्धि वाले (राक्षस) उन विभिन्न आश्रम स्थानों में छिपकर, बिना जानकारी दिए (अचानक) आक्रमण करते हैं और तपस्वियों का नाश करने में आनंद लेते हैं।
English Commentary
The treachery of the Rakshasas is highlighted here. They do not fight openly but hide (avalīya) in the very sanctuaries of the ashrams to ambush the unsuspecting sages. The phrase ramante... nāśayantaḥ (they delight... in destroying) points to their sadistic nature; they kill not just for territory or dominance, but for sport. The descriptor alpayetasaḥ (small-minded/mean-spirited) contrasts their petty, cruel mentality with the magnanimity of the sages they torment.

यह श्लोक राक्षसों की गुरिल्ला युद्धनीति (guerrilla tactics) का वर्णन करता है। 'अबुद्धमवलीय' (बिना जाने छिपकर) का अर्थ है कि वे छद्म युद्ध करते हैं, जो धर्मयुद्ध के नियमों के विरुद्ध है। 'अल्पचेतस:' (तुच्छ बुद्धि वाले) विशेषण बताता है कि उनकी बुद्धि निम्न स्तर की है क्योंकि वे हिंसा में 'रमन्ते' (आनंद लेते हैं)। किसी की हत्या में आनंद लेना साडिज्म (sadism) है, जो राक्षसी प्रवृत्ति का मुख्य लक्षण है। वे आश्रम के पवित्र स्थानों को ही वधस्थल बना रहे हैं।
