Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत्पुरा राम शारीरीमुपहिंसां तपस्विषु ।
दर्शयन्ति हि दुष्टास्ते त्यक्ष्याम इममाश्रमम् ॥ ॥२-११६-१९॥
Tatpurā rāma śārīrīmupahiṃsāṃ tapasviṣu । Darśayanti hi duṣṭāste tyakṣyāma imamāśramam ॥ ॥2-116-19॥
Translation
Therefore, O Rama, before those wicked ones inflict bodily harm upon the ascetics, we shall abandon this hermitage.

इसलिए हे राम! इससे पहले कि वे दुष्ट तपस्वियों पर शारीरिक हिंसा करें (या मार डालें), हम इस आश्रम को त्याग देंगे।
English Commentary
The verse conveys a sense of urgency. The phrase tat purā (before that happens) indicates that the sages anticipate an imminent escalation from harassment to mass slaughter (śārīrīm upahiṃsām). The decision to leave is a survival strategy to preserve their lineage and their austerities. By stating "we shall abandon this hermitage," the sage presents Rama with a fait accompli, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. It implicitly places the burden of restoring order on Rama, as the guardians of Dharma are being forced to flee their sanctuary.

यह ऋषियों का अंतिम निर्णय है। 'पुरा' (पहले) शब्द यहाँ महत्वपूर्ण है—वे निवारक (preventive) कदम उठा रहे हैं। अपमान और यज्ञ-विध्वंस तक तो उन्होंने सहन किया, किन्तु अब बात 'शारीरीम् उपहिंसाम्' (प्राणघातक शारीरिक हिंसा) तक पहुँचने वाली है। ऋषि राम से अनुमति या विदा ले रहे हैं, यह कहते हुए कि वे अब यहाँ एक क्षण भी नहीं रुक सकते। यह राम के लिए एक धर्मसंकट और चुनौती दोनों है कि उनके रहते ऋषियों को भागना पड़ रहा है।
