Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
बहुमूलफलं चित्रमविदूरादितो वनम् ।
पुराणाश्रममेवाहं श्रयिष्ये सगण: पुन: ॥ ॥२-११६-२०॥
Bahumūlaphalaṃ citramavidūrādito vanam । Purāṇāśramamevāhaṃ śrayiṣye sagaṇaḥ punaḥ ॥ ॥2-116-20॥
Translation
Not far from here is a wondrous forest, rich in many roots and fruits. I shall, along with my group, take refuge once again in that ancient hermitage.

यहाँ से थोड़ी ही दूर पर एक विचित्र वन है, जहाँ बहुत से कंद-मूल और फल उपलब्ध हैं। मैं अपने गण (शिष्यों और साथियों) के साथ पुनः उसी पुराने आश्रम का आश्रय लूँगा।
English Commentary
The sage displays practical wisdom here. The decision to migrate is well-planned, not a panic-stricken flight into the unknown. He identifies a location that satisfies the physical needs of the ascetic community—specifically, the abundance of mūla (roots) and phala (fruits), which constitute their diet. The term purāṇāśramam (ancient hermitage) suggests a return to a previously established, perhaps safer, spiritual sanctuary. By stating he moves sagaṇaḥ (with his troop/followers), he reinforces his role as a Kulapati (chancellor/head), prioritizing the collective safety of his spiritual lineage over attachment to the current location.

कुलपति ऋषि यहाँ व्यावहारिक (pragmatic) निर्णय ले रहे हैं। पलायन का अर्थ यह नहीं है कि वे वन जीवन त्याग रहे हैं; वे केवल स्थान परिवर्तन कर रहे हैं। 'बहुमूलफलम्' का उल्लेख इसलिए आवश्यक है क्योंकि वानप्रस्थ जीवन में आहार-विहार की सुविधा देखना अनिवार्य है ताकि साधना में बाधा न आए। 'पुराणाश्रमम्' (पुराने आश्रम) शब्द संकेत करता है कि यह स्थान उनके लिए परिचित है। संभवतः राक्षसों के आने से पहले वे वहीं रहते थे, या वह ऋषियों का एक प्राचीन केंद्र है। 'सगण:' बताता है कि ऋषि अकेले नहीं, बल्कि पूरे समुदाय की सुरक्षा का दायित्व निभा रहे हैं।
