Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
राम: संसाध्य त्वृषिगणमनुगमनाद्देशात्तस्मात् कुलपतिमभिवाद्य ऋषिम् ।
सम्यक्प्रीतैस्तैरअनुमत उपदिष्टार्थ: पुण्यं वासाय स्वनिलयमुपसम्पेदे ॥ ॥२-११६-२५॥
Rāmaḥ saṃsādhya tvṛṣigaṇamanugamanāddeśāttasmāt kulapatimabhivādya ṛṣim । Samyakprītaistairanumata upadiṣṭārthaḥ puṇyaṃ vāsāya svanilayamupasampede ॥ ॥2-116-25॥
Translation
Rama saw off the group of Rishis by following them for some distance from that place, and bowed to the Sage Kulapati. Permitted by them who were well-pleased, and having received instructions, he returned to his holy abode to dwell.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम ने उस ऋषि-समूह को विदा किया और उस स्थान से कुछ दूर तक उनके पीछे जाकर, कुलपति ऋषि को प्रणाम किया। उन प्रसन्नचित्त ऋषियों से अनुमति और उपदेश (निर्देश) प्राप्त करके, वे निवास के लिए अपनी पवित्र पर्णकुटी में लौट आए।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the Vedic etiquette of anugamana—walking behind a departing guest or elder to show respect. Rama fulfills this duty impeccably. The phrase upadiṣṭārthaḥ (instructed in matters/goals) implies that in their final moments, the sages imparted crucial advice or logistical information to Rama, perhaps regarding the geography or the nature of the enemy. Despite the sad migration, the sages part samyak-prītaiḥ (thoroughly pleased) with Rama’s conduct, leaving him to return to his now solitary dwelling.

यह श्लोक 'अनुगमन' (पीछे-पीछे चलना) की परंपरा को दर्शाता है, जो अतिथि या पूज्य व्यक्ति को विदा करते समय किया जाता है। राम ने केवल हाथ नहीं हिलाया, बल्कि कुछ दूर तक साथ चले। 'उपदिष्टार्थ:' अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है—जाते-जाते ऋषियों ने राम को कुछ विशेष निर्देश या ज्ञान दिया (संभवतः राक्षसों से निपटने या धर्म पालन के विषय में)। ऋषियों के जाने के बाद राम अपने 'स्वनिलयम्' (अपने निवास/पर्णकुटी) में लौट आए, जो अब सूना हो गया था।
