Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
आश्रमं त्वृषिविरहितं प्रभु: क्षणमपि न विजहौ स राघव: ।
राघवं हि सततमनुगतास्तापसाश्चार्षचरितधृतगुणा: ॥ ॥२-११६-२६॥
Āśramaṃ tvṛṣivirahitaṃ prabhuḥ kṣaṇamapi na vijahau sa rāghavaḥ । Rāghavaṃ hi satatamanugatāstāpasāścārṣacaritadhṛtaguṇāḥ ॥ ॥2-116-26॥
Translation
Though the hermitage was bereft of the Rishis, Lord Raghava did not abandon it even for a moment (initially). Indeed, the ascetics who possessed the virtues of sages constantly followed Raghava.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यद्यपि वह आश्रम ऋषियों से रहित हो गया था, तथापि प्रभु राघव ने उसे एक क्षण के लिए भी नहीं छोड़ा (अर्थात वे तत्काल वहाँ से नहीं भागे)। और जो तपस्वी (वहाँ रह गए थे या उनके साथ थे), वे ऋषियों के चरित्र और गुणों को धारण करने वाले सदा राघव का अनुसरण करते रहे।
English Commentary
This verse serves as a transition and a testament to Rama's fortitude. Despite the ṛṣi-virahitaṃ (emptiness of sages) environment, Rama did not flee in panic. The title Prabhu (Lord/Master) reinforces his autonomy and lack of fear. The second line clarifies that Rama was not entirely alone; there were still some ascetics—described as holding the virtues of the seers (ārṣa-carita)—who remained devoted to him. This sets the scene: the main community has left, but Rama holds the fort, at least for the time being.

यहाँ एक सूक्ष्म विरोधाभास है। ऋषियों के जाने से आश्रम सूना हो गया, फिर भी राम ने धैर्य नहीं खोया और तुरंत स्थान नहीं छोड़ा। वे 'प्रभु' (समर्थ) हैं, इसलिए भयभीत होकर भागना उनके स्वभाव में नहीं है। दूसरी पंक्ति बताती है कि कुछ तपस्वी अभी भी राम के साथ थे या राम का अनुसरण करते थे। 'आर्षचरितधृतगुणा:' विशेषण उन तपस्वियों के लिए है जो राम के साथ रहे—वे ऋषियों के समान ही गुणवान थे। यह श्लोक सर्ग के अंत में राम की स्थिरता को स्थापित करता है।
