Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अभिवाद्य च वैदेही तापसीं तामनिन्दिताम् ।
बद्धाञ्जलिपुटा हृष्टा पर्यपृच्छदनामयम् ॥ ॥२-११७-१८॥
Abhivādya ca vaidehī tāpasīṃ tāmaninditām । Baddhāñjalipuṭā hṛṣṭā paryapṛcchadanāmayam ॥ ॥2-117-18॥
Translation
Vaidehi (Sita), having bowed down to that blameless female ascetic (Anasuya), stood with joined palms in joy and inquired about her well-being.
हिंदी अनुवाद
विदेहराज की पुत्री सीता ने उन अनिंदनीय (दोषरहित) तपस्विनी (अनसूया) को प्रणाम किया और प्रसन्नतापूर्वक हाथ जोड़कर उनकी कुशलता (अनामय) पूछी।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Sita’s impeccable etiquette and humility. Despite being a princess of a high lineage and the wife of Rama, she displays absolute reverence toward the elderly ascetic Anasuya. The epithet Aninditam (blameless) describes Anasuya, reinforcing her spiritual purity. Sita standing with Baddhanjaliputa (folded hands) to inquire about Anasuya’s health shows that true nobility lies in humility toward elders and sages. The use of the word Hrista (joyful) indicates that despite the hardships of the forest exile, Sita maintains a positive and respectful demeanor, unaffected by external tribulations when in the presence of holy company.

यह श्लोक सीता जी के शिष्टाचार और विनम्रता को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि सीता एक महान कुल की राजकुमारी और श्रीराम की पत्नी हैं, फिर भी वे वयोवृद्ध तपस्विनी अनसूया के प्रति पूर्ण सम्मान प्रकट करती हैं। 'अनिन्दिताम्' शब्द अनसूया के लिए प्रयोग किया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है जिनमें कोई दोष या निंदा का भाव न हो। सीता जी का हाथ जोड़कर कुशलता पूछना यह सिद्ध करता है कि उच्च कुल में जन्मी स्त्रियाँ अपने से बड़ों का आदर करना अपना परम कर्तव्य मानती हैं। वनवास के कष्टों के बीच भी सीता का चित्त 'हृष्टा' (प्रसन्न) है, जो उनकी मानसिक दृढ़ता का परिचायक है।
