तत: सीतां महाभागां दृष्ट्वा तां धर्माचारिणीम् ।
सान्त्वयन्त्यब्रवीद्धृष्टा दिष्ट्या धर्ममवेक्षसे ॥ ॥२-११७-१९॥
Tataḥ sītāṃ mahābhāgāṃ dṛṣṭvā tāṃ dharmacāriṇīm । Sāntvayantyanbravīddhṛṣṭā diṣṭyā dharmamavekṣase ॥ ॥2-117-19॥
Translation
Then, seeing the illustrious Sita, who was a follower of righteousness, Anasuya, comforting her, spoke happily: "It is by good fortune that you observe Dharma."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब उन महाभाग (परम सौभाग्यवती) और धर्म का आचरण करने वाली सीता को देखकर, अनसूया ने उन्हें सांत्वना देते हुए प्रसन्नतापूर्वक कहा—"बड़े भाग्य की बात है कि तुम धर्म पर दृष्टि रखती हो।"
English Commentary
Anasuya addresses Sita as Mahabhaga (illustrious/fortunate) and Dharmacharini (one who walks the path of righteousness). Anasuya praises Sita for choosing the path of duty over the comforts of the palace. The act of "comforting" (Santvayanti) suggests Anasuya’s maternal affection, recognizing the harsh transition Sita has made from royalty to forest life. Her statement, "By good fortune (Distya), you observe Dharma," implies that in times of adversity, it is common for people to abandon righteousness for survival or comfort. Sita, however, remains steadfast, earning the validation of an exalted ascetic like Anasuya.

तपस्विनी अनसूया सीता को 'महाभागा' और 'धर्मचारिणी' कह कर संबोधित करती हैं। यहाँ अनसूया सीता की प्रशंसा कर रही हैं क्योंकि सीता ने राजमहल के सुखों का त्याग कर धर्म का मार्ग चुना है। 'सान्त्वयन्ती' (सांत्वना देती हुई) शब्द का प्रयोग इसलिए किया गया है क्योंकि अनसूया जानती हैं कि सीता वन के कठोर जीवन की आदी नहीं हैं। अनसूया का यह कहना कि "दिष्ट्या" (सौभाग्य से) तुम धर्म को देखती हो, यह दर्शाता है कि विपत्ति काल में अक्सर लोग धर्म को भूल जाते हैं, लेकिन सीता ने संकट में भी धर्म का दामन नहीं छोड़ा है। यह एक वरिष्ठ तपस्विनी द्वारा एक युवा साध्वी को दिया गया प्रमाण-पत्र है।
