दशवर्षाण्यनावृष्ट्या दग्धे लोके निरन्तरम् ।
यया मूलफले सृष्टे जाह्नवी च प्रवर्त्तिता ॥ ॥२-११७-९॥
Daśavarṣāṇyanāvṛṣṭyā dagdhe loke nirantaram । Yayā mūlaphale sṛṣṭe jāhnavī ca pravartitā ॥ ॥2-117-9॥
Translation
"When the world was continuously scorched by a drought for ten years, she created roots and fruits (by her power) and caused the Jahnavi (Ganga) to flow."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(राम को बताते हुए अत्रि कहते हैं) जब लगातार दस वर्षों तक वर्षा न होने के कारण संसार जलने लगा था, तब जिस देवी ने (अपने तपोबल से) कंद-मूल और फल उत्पन्न किए और गंगा (जाह्नवी) की धारा प्रवाहित की।
English Commentary
Atri highlights Anasuya's miraculous powers (siddhis) to validate her stature. Her asceticism is not passive but active and benevolent. During a catastrophic ten-year drought (anāvṛṣṭyā), she acted as a sustainer of life, metaphysically synthesizing food (mūla-phale) and manifesting water (jāhnavī - a reference to the Ganga or Mandakini river). This portrays her as a powerful maternal force capable of altering nature for the protection of living beings.

यहाँ अनसूया की 'सिद्धियों' का वर्णन है। तपस्या केवल आत्म-कल्याण के लिए नहीं, बल्कि लोक-कल्याण के लिए होती है। अनसूया ने अनावृष्टि (सूखे) के समय अपनी योगशक्ति से वनस्पति ('मूलफले') का सृजन किया ताकि जीव भूख से न मरें। 'जाह्नवी च प्रवर्त्तिता' का संदर्भ मंदाकिनी नदी से है, जिसे चित्रकूट में लाने का श्रेय अनसूया को जाता है (उन्हें गंगा का ही रूप माना जाता है)। यह उनकी 'अन्नपूर्णा' और 'जीवनदायिनी' शक्ति का प्रमाण है।
