ततो ऽनसूया संहृष्टा श्रुत्वोक्तं सीतया वच: ।
शिरस्याघ्राय चोवाच मैथिलीं हर्षयन्त्युत ॥ ॥२-११८-१३॥
Tato 'nasūyā saṃhṛṣṭā śrutvoktaṃ sītayā vacaḥ । Śirasyāghrāya covāca maithilīṃ harṣayantyuta ॥ ॥2-118-13॥
Translation
"Then Anasuya, extremely pleased upon hearing the words spoken by Sita, smelled her head and spoke, bringing joy to Maithili."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"तब सीता के कहे हुए वचनों को सुनकर अनसूया अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुईं। उन्होंने सीता का सिर सूंघकर (स्नेह प्रकट करते हुए) उन्हें हर्षित करते हुए कहा।"
English Commentary
Anasuya’s reaction confirms Sita’s success in communicating her values. Hearing Sita’s reply, Anasuya is Samhrishta (delighted). The gesture of Shirasyaghraya (smelling the head) is a traditional Indian expression of deep maternal affection and blessing, superior even to a hug. It signifies acceptance and protection. Anasuya prepares to speak words that will gladden (Harshayanti) Sita, signaling a shift from a didactic interaction (teaching dharma) to a benevolent one (bestowing grace/boons).

सीता के ज्ञानपूर्ण और विनम्र उत्तर को सुनकर अनसूया 'संहृष्टा' (बहुत प्रसन्न) हुईं। प्राचीन भारतीय संस्कृति में बड़ों द्वारा छोटों के सिर को सूंघना ('शिरस्याघ्राय') अत्यधिक वात्सल्य और आशीर्वाद का प्रतीक माना जाता है। यह स्पर्श बताता है कि अनसूया सीता को पुत्रीवत मानती हैं। अनसूया अब सीता को कुछ देना चाहती हैं, इसलिए वे सीता को 'हर्षयन्ती' (प्रसन्न करती हुई) कुछ कहने जा रही हैं। यह संवाद अब उपदेश से वरदान की ओर बढ़ रहा है।
