नियमैर्विविधैराप्तं तपो हि महदस्ति मे ।
तत्संश्रित्य बलं सीते छन्दये त्वां शुचिस्मिते ॥ ॥२-११८-१४॥
Niyamairvividhairāptaṃ tapo hi mahadasti me । Tatsaṃśritya balaṃ sīte chandaye tvāṃ śucismite ॥ ॥2-118-14॥
Translation
"O Sita of pure smiles! Through various observances, I have indeed acquired great ascetic merit. Relying on that power, I wish to gratify you (confer a boon upon you)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे पवित्र मुस्कान वाली सीते! विविध प्रकार के नियमों के पालन से मैंने महान तप (शक्ति) अर्जित किया है। उस तपोबल का आश्रय लेकर मैं तुम्हें प्रसन्न करना (वरदान देना) चाहती हूँ।"
English Commentary
Anasuya proclaims her spiritual credentials. Through diverse Niyamas (strict observances/disciplines), she has accumulated a vast reservoir of Tapas (ascetic heat/power). She intends to utilize this spiritual capital (Balam) to benefit Sita. Addressing Sita as Shuchismite (one with a pure/bright smile), Anasuya offers to grant a boon or gratify her wishes (Chandaye). This is a significant moment where the ascetic power of the forest matriarch is pledged to support the royal exile, merging the sanctity of the hermitage with the destiny of the avatar.

अनसूया अपने तप के प्रभाव की घोषणा करती हैं। उन्होंने जीवन भर कठोर 'नियमों' का पालन किया है जिससे उनके पास 'महत् तप:' (महान शक्ति) संचित है। भारतीय परंपरा में, तपस्वी अपने तप का एक अंश किसी को वरदान देने में खर्च कर सकते हैं। अनसूया सीता की 'शुचिस्मिते' (पवित्र मुस्कान) और शुद्ध चरित्र से इतनी प्रभावित हैं कि वे अपने तप के बल पर सीता का भला करना चाहती हैं। 'छन्दये' का अर्थ है 'मैं तुम्हें कुछ देना चाहती हूँ' या 'तुम्हारी इच्छा पूर्ण करना चाहती हूँ'।
