स्वयंवरे किल प्राप्ता त्वमनेन यशस्विना ।
राघवेणेति मे सीते कथा श्रुतिमुपागता ॥ ॥२-११८-२४॥
Svayaṃvare kila prāptā tvamanena yaśasvinā । Rāghaveṇeti me sīte kathā śrutimupāgatā ॥ ॥2-118-24॥
Translation
"O Sita! A story has come to my ears that you were won by this illustrious Raghava (Rama) in a Swayamvara (ceremony of self-choice)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे सीते! मैंने ऐसी कथा सुनी है (मेरे कानों में आई है) कि स्वयंवर में इन यशस्वी राघव (श्रीराम) ने तुम्हें प्राप्त किया था।"
English Commentary
Anasuya brings up the topic of the Swayamvara (the ceremony where a bride chooses her groom from assembled suitors). She mentions that the story has reached her ears (Shrutim upagata) that Sita was won by the famous (Yashasvina) Rama in such a contest. This suggests the fame of the bow-breaking incident in Mithila had spread far and wide, even to the secluded forests. Anasuya expresses curiosity to verify the hearsay.
