तस्य लाङ्गलहस्तस्य कर्षत: क्षेत्रमण्डलम् ।
अहं किलोत्थिता भित्त्वा जगतीं नृपते: सुता ॥२-११८-२८॥
tasya lāṅgalahastasya karṣataḥ kṣetramaṇḍalam । ahaṃ kilotthitā bhittvā jagatīṃ nṛpateḥ sutā ॥2-118-28॥
Translation
While he was holding the plough in his hand and tilling the field (for a sacrificial ritual), I rose up, breaking through the earth, and thus became the King's daughter.

जब वे (मेरे पिता) हाथ में हल लेकर यज्ञ के लिए भूमि जोत रहे थे, तब मैं पृथ्वी को फोड़कर बाहर निकली और उस राजा की पुत्री बनी।
English Commentary
This verse narrates the miraculous origin of Sita. In ancient Vedic culture, kings occasionally ploughed the land personally as part of a Yajna (sacrifice) to purify the ground or seek blessings. The name "Sita" literally translates to the "furrow" made by a plough. By stating she rose Bhittva jagatim (breaking the earth), Sita emphasizes her divine origin—she is not born of a womb but is the daughter of Mother Earth (Bhudevi). This connects her character intrinsically with the qualities of earth: patience, fertility, and resilience.

यह श्लोक सीता जी के 'अयोनिजा' (गर्भ से न जन्मी) स्वरूप को प्रकट करता है। प्राचीन परंपरा में, यज्ञ के लिए भूमि को राजा द्वारा स्वयं जोतने का विधान था, जो राजा की विनम्रता और भूमि के प्रति सम्मान दर्शाता है। 'सीता' शब्द का शाब्दिक अर्थ ही 'हल की रेखा' या 'कूड़' है। उनका पृथ्वी से प्रकट होना यह संकेत देता है कि वे साक्षात भूमि की पुत्री हैं, धैर्य और धारण करने की क्षमता का प्रतीक हैं। 'किल' शब्द यहाँ एक प्रसिद्ध वृत्तांत या आश्चर्यजनक घटना का सूचक है।
