Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दत्ता चास्मीष्टवद्देव्यै ज्येष्ठायै पुण्यकर्मणा ।
तया सम्भाविता चास्मि स्निग्धया मातृसौहृदात् ॥२-११८-३३॥
dattā cāsmīṣṭavaddevyai jyeṣṭhāyai puṇyakarmaṇā । tayā sambhāvitā cāsmi snigdhayā mātṛsauhṛdāt ॥2-118-33॥
Translation
That doer of pious deeds (Janaka) gave me, like a cherished treasure, to his eldest Queen. She raised me with honor, filled with affection and motherly love.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन पुण्यकर्मा (पिता) ने मुझे इष्ट (प्रिय वस्तु) की भांति बड़ी रानी को सौंप दिया। उन स्नेहमयी माता ने वात्सल्य और सौहार्द के साथ मेरा पालन-पोषण किया।
English Commentary
This verse describes Sita’s integration into the royal family structure. King Janaka entrusted her to the Chief Queen (Jyeshtha Devi), treating Sita as a precious gift (Ishtavat). The commentary highlights the Queen's acceptance; she raised Sita not out of mere duty, but with Matrisauhrida (motherly friendship/love). This detail is crucial to show that Sita, despite her mysterious birth, grew up with the full emotional support and legitimacy of the royal parents, lacking nothing in her upbringing.

यद्यपि सीता को जनक ने प्राप्त किया था, परन्तु उनका पालन-पोषण रनिवास में हुआ। राजा ने उन्हें 'ज्येष्ठायै देव्यै' (पटरानी/बड़ी रानी) को सौंपा, जो दर्शाता है कि सीता को तुरंत सर्वोच्च राजसी सम्मान मिला। 'इष्टवत्' (प्रिय वस्तु की तरह) शब्द बताता है कि वे रानी के लिए अनमोल उपहार थीं। रानी ने उन्हें सौतेली या दत्तक पुत्री जैसा नहीं, अपितु 'मातृसौहृदात्' (माता के स्वाभाविक प्रेम) से बड़ा किया। यह श्लोक सीता के सुरक्षित और प्रेमपूर्ण बचपन की पुष्टि करता है।
