अयोनिजां हि मां ज्ञात्वा नाध्यगच्छद्विचिन्तयन् ।
सदृशं चानुरूपं च महीपाल: पतिं मम ॥२-११८-३७॥
ayonijāṃ hi māṃ jñātvā nādhyagacchadvicintayan । sadṛśaṃ cānurūpaṃ ca mahīpālaḥ patiṃ mama ॥2-118-37॥
Translation
Knowing that I was not born of a womb, the King, despite thinking deeply, could not find a husband for me who was suitable and worthy.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं अयोनिजा (गर्भ से न जन्मी) हूँ, यह जानकर और बहुत विचार करने पर भी, उन राजा को मेरे लिए सदृश (समान) और अनुरूप (योग्य) पति नहीं मिल पा रहा था।
English Commentary
This verse clarifies the root of the dilemma. It wasn't just about finding a husband, but finding one worthy of an Ayonija (one not born of a womb). Sita's divine origin set her apart from humanity. Janaka struggled to envision a human prince who could match her spiritual stature and origin. He needed someone Sadrisham (equal in status) and Anurupam (matching in qualities). The conventional criteria for matchmaking failed here because the bride herself was unconventional and divine.

जनक की चिंता का मुख्य कारण यहाँ स्पष्ट किया गया है। सीता सामान्य मानवी नहीं, 'अयोनिजा' थीं। एक साधारण राजकुमार, चाहे वह कितना भी शक्तिशाली हो, क्या पृथ्वी-पुत्री के योग्य हो सकता है? जनक को भय था कि देवता या गंधर्व के अलावा कोई मनुष्य सीता के तेज को संभाल पाएगा या नहीं। 'सदृशं चानुरूपं च' (समान और योग्य) - यह द्वंद्व था कि वर को कुल और शील में जनक के समान होना चाहिए, और गुणों में सीता के अनुरूप। यह बेमेल विवाह का भय था।
