तद्धनु: प्राप्य मे पित्रा व्याहृतं सत्यवादिना ।
समवाये नरेन्द्राणां पूर्वमामन्त्र्य पार्थिवान् ॥२-११८-४१॥
taddhanuḥ prāpya me pitrā vyāhṛtaṃ satyavādinā । samavāye narendrāṇāṃ pūrvamāmantrya pārthivān ॥2-118-41॥
Translation
Having obtained (brought forth) that bow, my truth-speaking father invited the kings and, in that assembly of rulers, declared:

उस धनुष को प्राप्त करके (सभा में रखकर), मेरे सत्यवादी पिता ने पहले राजाओं को निमंत्रित किया और फिर उन राजाओं के समूह में यह घोषणा की:
English Commentary
This verse highlights Janaka's integrity. He is described as Satyavadina (speaker of truth). He did not secretly choose a groom; he made the process transparent. By inviting the kings (Amantrya) and placing the bow in the assembly (Samavaye), he ensured that the test of valor was witnessed by all. This public declaration validated the fairness of the competition, ensuring that whoever won Sita would do so through undeniable merit.

राजा जनक का विशेषण 'सत्यवादिना' (सत्य बोलने वाले) यहाँ अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। उन्होंने किसी भी राजा को धोखे में नहीं रखा और न ही पक्षपात किया। उन्होंने 'समवाये' (सभा/समूह) में सबके सामने खुली चुनौती रखी। यह स्वयंवर की पारदर्शिता को दर्शाता है। जनक ने पहले राजाओं को आदरपूर्वक बुलाया ('आमन्त्र्य') और फिर नियम बताया, जो एक धर्मपरायण क्षत्रिय राजा की मर्यादा के अनुरूप है।
