Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुतौ दशरथस्येमौ धनुर्दर्शनकांक्षिणौ ।
धनुर्दर्शय रामाय राजपुत्राय दैविकम् ॥२-११८-४६॥
sutau daśarathasyemau dhanurdarśanakāṅkṣiṇau । dhanurdarśaya rāmāya rājaputrāya daivikam ॥2-118-46॥
Translation
(Vishvamitra said): "These two sons of Dasharatha are desirous of seeing the bow. Please show the divine bow to Prince Rama."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(विश्वामित्र ने कहा): "दशरथ के ये दोनों पुत्र उस धनुष को देखने के इच्छुक हैं। अतः आप राजपुत्र राम को वह दिव्य धनुष दिखाइए।"
English Commentary
Vishvamitra’s request is framed subtly. He introduces the princes as curious observers (Dhanur-darshana-kankshinau), not explicit competitors. This was appropriate as Rama had arrived casually, not as a formal suitor responding to the initial invite. By asking Janaka to merely 'show' the bow, Vishvamitra sets the stage for the feat without appearing arrogant. It implies, 'Let the boy see it, and destiny will take its course.'

विश्वामित्र की वाणी में कूटनीति और आत्मविश्वास है। उन्होंने यह नहीं कहा कि राम धनुष तोड़ेंगे या स्वयंवर में भाग लेंगे। उन्होंने केवल 'दर्शनकांक्षिणौ' (देखने के इच्छुक) कहा। यह राम की मर्यादा की रक्षा थी (क्योंकि वे बिना निमंत्रण आए थे) और साथ ही जनक के संशय को दूर करने का उपाय भी। 'दैविकम्' शब्द पुनः याद दिलाता है कि वह धनुष साधारण नहीं था। ऋषि का आदेश मानकर जनक बाध्य हो गए।
