ततो ऽहं तत्र रामाय पित्रा सत्याभिसन्धिना ।
निश्चिता दातुमुद्यम्य जलभाजनमुत्तमम् ॥२-११८-५०॥
tato 'haṃ tatra rāyāya pitrā satyābhisandhinā । niścitā dātumudyamya jalabhājanamuttamam ॥2-118-50॥
Translation
Then, my father, who is steadfast in his truth, lifted an excellent vessel of water and resolved to give me to Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब अपनी प्रतिज्ञा पर दृढ़ रहने वाले (सत्याभिसन्धिना) मेरे पिता ने उत्तम जल-पात्र (कलश) उठाकर, मुझे राम को देने का निश्चय किया (संकल्प लिया)।
English Commentary
Following the feat, Janaka acts immediately to fulfill his vow. He is described as Satyabhisandhina (one who keeps his covenant). Lifting the water vessel (Jala-bhajanam) signifies the ritualistic act of Sankalpa for Kanyadaan (giving away the maiden). By taking the water, Janaka formally pledged Sita to Rama, cementing the alliance instantly. It marks the transition of Sita from Janaka's daughter to Rama's betrothed.

शर्त पूरी होते ही जनक ने विलंब नहीं किया। 'सत्याभिसन्धिना' (सत्य प्रतिज्ञा वाले) जनक ने तुरंत 'जलभाजनम्' (जल पात्र) उठाया। हिंदू विवाह परंपरा में 'कन्यादान' संकल्प जल हाथ में लेकर किया जाता है। जनक ने राम को वर रूप में स्वीकार किया। यहाँ जनक की प्रसन्नता और राहत स्पष्ट है—जिस 'चिंता के सागर' में वे डूबे थे, राम के पराक्रम ने उन्हें उससे पार लगा दिया।
