पाणिप्रदानकाले च यत्पुरा त्वग्निसन्निधौ ।
अनुशिष्टा जनन्या ऽस्मि वाक्यं तदपि मे धृतम् ॥ ॥२-११८-८॥
Pāṇiprādānakāle ca yatpurā tvagnisannidhau । Anuśiṣṭā jananyā 'smi vākyaṃ tadapi me dhṛtam ॥ ॥2-118-8॥
Translation
"And what I was instructed by my mother formerly at the time of giving away my hand (marriage) in the presence of the fire, that word too is held by me."

"और विवाह के समय (पाणिग्रहण संस्कार में) अग्नि के समीप मेरी माता ने मुझे जो सीख दी थी, वह वाक्य भी मुझे याद (धारण किया हुआ) है।"
English Commentary
Sita goes further back to the genesis of her marital life—the Panipradanakale (the time of accepting the hand in marriage). She recalls the instructions given by her own mother in the presence of the sacred fire (Agnisannidhau). By citing both her mother and mother-in-law, Sita confirms that her dedication to Rama is endorsed by both her lineage (Janaka’s family) and her husband’s lineage (Raghu clan). She politely intimates to Anasuya that these values are deeply ingrained in her psyche since the very moment of her wedding.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ सीता अपनी माँ (मिथिला की महारानी) की सीख को याद करती हैं। 'पाणिप्रदानकाले' का अर्थ है कन्यादान या विवाह के समय। अग्नि (हवन) को साक्षी मानकर जो उपदेश दिया जाता है, वह एक संस्कार बन जाता है। सीता कहती हैं कि विवाह के समय और वनवास के समय—जीवन के इन दो बड़े मोड़ों पर मिली शिक्षाएं उनके जीवन का आधार हैं। इससे पता चलता है कि सीता विदेहराज जनक के ज्ञान और माता के संस्कारों की प्रतिमूर्ति हैं। उन्हें धर्म का पाठ पुनः पढ़ाने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, वे उसे जी रही हैं।
