Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एष पन्था महर्षीणां फलान्याहरतां वने ।
अनेन तु वनं दुर्गं गन्तुं राघव ते क्षमम् ॥२-११९-२०॥
Eṣa panthā maharṣīṇāṃ phalānyāharatāṃ vane । Anena tu vanaṃ durgaṃ gantuṃ rāghava te kṣamam ॥ ॥2-119-20॥
Translation
(The ascetics said) This is the path used by the great sages who gather fruits in the forest. O Raghava, it is proper for you to proceed into the difficult forest by this route.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(ऋषियों ने कहा) वन में फल लाने वाले महर्षियों का यह मार्ग है। हे राघव! इसी मार्ग से तुम्हारे लिए दुर्गम वन में जाना उचित होगा।
English Commentary
After the warning, comes the guidance. The ascetics point out a specific path used by sages for gathering sustenance ("phalānyāharatāṃ"). By recommending this path, they ensure that Rama enters the "durgaṃ" (difficult/impassable) forest via a route that is tried and tested by the holy men. This signifies the transfer of local wisdom to the exiles. With this verse, the stage is set for Rama to leave the relative safety of the peripheral hermitages and step into the deep, mysterious wilderness of the Dandakaranya.

खतरों से आगाह करने के बाद, ऋषि अब राम को सही मार्ग दिखाते हैं। यह वह मार्ग है जिसका उपयोग ऋषि 'फलान्याहरतां' (फल लाने के लिए) करते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि यह एक जाना-पहचाना और अपेक्षाकृत सुरक्षित रास्ता है। 'दुर्गं वनं' (कठिन/दुर्गम वन) में प्रवेश करने के लिए बड़ों के द्वारा बताए गए मार्ग का अनुसरण करना ही श्रेयस्कर है। यह श्लोक अयोध्या काण्ड के अंत और अरण्य काण्ड के प्रारंभ के बीच का सेतु है, जहाँ राम अब ऋषियों के आशीर्वाद और निर्देश के साथ घने जंगलों में प्रवेश करेंगे।
