ऋषीणामग्निहोत्रेषु हुतेषु विधिपूर्वकम् ।
कपोताङ्गारुणो धूमो दृश्यते पवनोद्धत: ॥२-११९-५॥
ṛṣīṇāmagnihotreṣu huteṣu vidhipūrvakam । kapotāṅgāruṇo dhūmo dṛśyate pavanoddhataḥ ॥2-119-5॥
Translation
"As the sages have duly performed their Agnihotra sacrifices, smoke resembling the [greyish-red] color of a pigeon's neck is seen rising, carried by the wind."

"ऋषियों द्वारा विधिपूर्वक अग्निहोत्र (हवन) संपन्न किए जाने पर, कबूतर के कंठ जैसा धूसर (अरुण-धूसर) रंग का धुआं हवा से ऊपर उठता हुआ दिखाई दे रहा है।"
English Commentary
A striking visual metaphor is used here. The smoke from the sacrificial fires (Agnihotra) is compared to the color of a pigeon’s neck (Kapotanga-aruna—a mix of grey and reddish-brown). This specific observation highlights Valmiki's keen eye for nature. The rising smoke indicates that the evening rituals have commenced. It adds a sensory layer (smell of havan, sight of smoke) to the scene, enveloping Sita in the spiritual ambiance of the hermitage.

यह उपमा कालिदास और अन्य कवियों द्वारा भी सराही गई है। हवन के धुएं का रंग 'कपोताङ्गारुणो' (कबूतर के अंग जैसा, कुछ लाली और सफेदी लिए हुए भूरा) बताया गया है। यह धुआं केवल प्रदूषण नहीं, बल्कि वातावरण की पवित्रता का प्रतीक है। 'विधिपूर्वकम्' शब्द बताता है कि आश्रम में धर्म का पालन कितनी निष्ठा से होता है। यह दृश्य आँखों के लिए जितना सुंदर है, मन के लिए उतना ही पवित्र है।
