विनापि सूर्येण भवेत्प्रवृत्ति ।
रवर्षता वज्रधरेण वापि ।
रामम् तु गच्छन्तमितः समीक्ष्य ।
जीवेन्न कश्चित्त्विति चेतना मे ॥२-१२-१०६॥
Vināpi sūryeṇa bhavetpravṛtti |
Ravarṣatā vajradhareṇa vāpi |
Rāmam tu gacchantamitaḥ samīkṣya |
Jīvenna kaścittviti cetanā me ॥2-12-106॥
Translation
The world might imply continue without the sun, or even without the Wielder of the Thunderbolt (Indra) sending rain. But having seen Rama departing from here, no one will survive—this is my conviction.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सूर्य के बिना भी शायद लोक का व्यवहार चल सकता है, इंद्र (वज्रधर) के वर्षा न करने पर भी काम चल सकता है, किन्तु राम को यहाँ से (वन की ओर) जाते हुए देखकर कोई जीवित नहीं रहेगा, ऐसा मेरा मानना है।
English Commentary
Dasharatha uses distinct metaphors to measure the necessity of Rama. He posits impossible scenarios—life continuing without the Sun (light/heat) or without Indra (rain/harvest)—and suggests these might be survivable catastrophes compared to Rama's departure. His 'cetanā' (consciousness/conviction) tells him that Rama's exile is an extinction event for the people of Ayodhya and himself. It places Rama above the elemental forces of nature in terms of sustaining the life of the kingdom. Dasharatha is telling Kaikeyi that she is not just banishing a prince, but killing the populace.

दशरथ अतिशयोक्ति का प्रयोग नहीं कर रहे, बल्कि अपनी 'चेतना' (अंतरात्मा/दृढ़ विश्वास) व्यक्त कर रहे हैं। वे सूर्य (प्रकाश/जीवन का स्रोत) और इंद्र (वर्षा/अन्न का स्रोत) के बिना जीवन की कल्पना तो कर सकते हैं—जो कि असंभव है—परन्तु राम के बिना अयोध्यावासियों और स्वयं उनके जीवित रहने की कल्पना नहीं कर सकते। यह राम के प्रति प्रजा और पिता के अगाध प्रेम की पराकाष्ठा है। राजा यह चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि राम का वियोग प्रलयंकारी होगा, जो प्रकृति के नियमों (सूर्य/वर्षा) के रुकने से भी अधिक घातक है।
