अपश्यतस्तु मे रामम् नष्टा भवति चेतना ।
तिष्ठेल्लोको विना सूर्यम् सस्यम् वा सलिलम् विना ॥२-१२-१३॥
apaśyatastu me rāmam naṣṭā bhavati cetanā । tiṣṭhelloko vinā sūryam sasyam vā salilam vinā ॥2-12-13॥
Translation
My consciousness fades when I do not see Rama. The world might exist without the sun, or crops without water, (but I cannot live without Rama).
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम को देखे बिना मेरी चेतना लुप्त हो जाती है। यह जगत सूर्य के बिना रह सकता है, फसलें जल के बिना जीवित रह सकती हैं (परन्तु मैं राम के बिना नहीं जी सकता)।
English Commentary
Dasharatha employs powerful hyperboles involving impossible natural phenomena to describe his desperation. While it is physically impossible for the world to survive without the sun or crops without water, Dasharatha claims that even if such miracles were to occur, he still could not survive without Rama. This is not mere exaggeration but a foreshadowing of his fate; he is effectively warning Kaikeyi that Rama's exile equates to his own death sentence. The verse highlights the King's absolute emotional dependency on Rama, equating his son's presence to the vital elements of nature required for life.

दशरथ असंभव उपमाओं (metaphors) का प्रयोग करके अपनी स्थिति की गंभीरता दर्शा रहे हैं। सूर्य के बिना संसार और जल के बिना फसल का जीवित रहना प्रकृति के नियमों के विरुद्ध है, अर्थात असंभव है। दशरथ कहते हैं कि यदि कदाचित यह असंभव भी संभव हो जाए, तब भी राम के बिना उनका जीवित रहना संभव नहीं है। यह अतिशयोक्ति नहीं, बल्कि उनके आसन्न वियोग के भय की वास्तविकता है। वे चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि राम का वनवास अनिवार्य रूप से दशरथ की मृत्यु का कारण बनेगा। यह श्लोक राजा की असहायता और राम पर उनकी पूर्ण निर्भरता को रेखांकित करता है।
