Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अञ्जलिम् कुर्मि कैकेयि पादौ चापि स्पृशामि ते ।
शरणम् भव रामस्य माऽधर्मो मामिह स्पृशेत् ॥२-१२-३६॥
añjalim kurmi kaikeyi pādau cāpi spṛśāmi te । śaraṇam bhava rāmasya mā'dharmo māmiha spṛśet ॥2-12-36॥
Translation
I fold my hands in supplication to you, O Kaikeyi, and I even touch your feet. Be a refuge to Rama, so that unrighteousness (Adharma) does not touch me here.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे कैकेयी! मैं तुम्हारे सामने हाथ जोड़ता हूँ और तुम्हारे पैर भी छूता हूँ। तुम राम की शरण (रक्षक) बन जाओ, ताकि मुझे यहाँ (इस लोक में) अधर्म न छू सके।
English Commentary
This verse marks the absolute surrender and desperation of King Dasharatha. For a Chakravarti Samrat (Universal Monarch) to fold his hands (Anjali) and touch his wife's feet is an extreme deviation from royal protocol, highlighting his helplessness. He strips away his ego and royal dignity, begging merely as a father. By asking her to be 'Rama's refuge,' he is pleading with her to protect Rama from the very exile she demanded. His primary fear is Adharma (unrighteousness); he hopes that if she voluntarily withdraws her request, he can save his son without breaking his vow of truthfulness.

यह श्लोक दशरथ की पूर्ण आत्मसमर्पण और पराजय को दर्शाता है। एक 'चक्रवर्ती सम्राट' का अपनी पत्नी के पैर छूना और 'अंजलि' (हाथ जोड़ना) करना उनकी चरम हताशा का प्रतीक है। दशरथ यहाँ अपनी प्रतिष्ठा, अहंकार और राजसी मर्यादा सब कुछ त्यागकर केवल एक पिता के रूप में भीख माँग रहे हैं। वे कैकेयी से 'राम की शरण' बनने को कहते हैं, अर्थात राम को वन भेजने के बजाय उनकी रक्षा करने को कहते हैं। उनका मुख्य भय 'अधर्म' है—वचन भंग का पाप। वे चाहते हैं कि कैकेयी स्वयं अपना वर वापस ले ले ताकि दशरथ सत्यवादी भी बने रहें और राम को वन भी न जाना पड़े।
