यदा समेता बहवस्त्वया राजर्षयस्सह ।
कथयिष्यन्ति धर्मज्ञ तत्र किम् प्रतिवक्ष्यसि ॥२-१२-४०॥
yadā sametā bahavastvayā rājarṣayassaha । kathayiṣyanti dharmajña tatra kim prativakṣyasi ॥2-12-40॥
Translation
O Knower of Dharma, when many Royal Sages gather and converse with you, what answer will you give there?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे धर्मज्ञ! जब बहुत से राजर्षि एक साथ मिलकर (धर्म की) चर्चा करेंगे, तब तुम उनके बीच (अपने इस कृत्य के बारे में) क्या उत्तर दोगे?
English Commentary
Kaikeyi leverages social pressure and peer judgment. Dasharatha moves in the circle of Rajarshis (Royal Sages), and his reputation among them is paramount. She asks him point-blank: when questioned by these pillars of dharma about his broken promise, what possible defense could he offer? Addressing him as Dharmajña (Knower of Dharma) is a mocking reminder that he is about to violate the very code he is supposed to uphold. She threatens him with social ostracization and the loss of respect among his peers.

कैकेयी सामाजिक दबाव (Social Pressure) का प्रयोग कर रही है। राजा दशरथ का उठना-बैठना महान राजर्षियों के साथ है। वह पूछती है कि जब वे ज्ञानी लोग तुमसे पूछेंगे कि तुमने अपनी पत्नी को दिया हुआ वचन क्यों तोड़ा, तो तुम्हारे पास क्या जवाब होगा? 'धर्मज्ञ' (धर्म को जानने वाले) संबोधन पुनः एक ताना है। वह दशरथ को यह अहसास दिला रही है कि वचन भंग करने से न केवल परिवार में, बल्कि विद्वानों और राजाओं के समाज में उनकी नाक कट जाएगी और वे मुँह दिखाने लायक नहीं रहेंगे।
