यस्याः प्रसादे जीवामि या च मामभ्यपालयत् ।
तस्याः कृतम् मया मिथ्या कैकेय्या इति वक्ष्यसि ॥२-१२-४१॥
yasyāḥ prasāde jīvāmi yā ca māmabhyapālayat । tasyāḥ kṛtam mayā mithyā kaikeyyā iti vakṣyasi ॥2-12-41॥
Translation
Will you say, "She by whose grace I live and who protected me—I have made my promise to that Kaikeyi false"?

क्या तुम (सभा में) यह कहोगे कि "जिसकी कृपा से मैं जीवित हूँ और जिसने (युद्ध में) मेरी रक्षा की थी, उस कैकेयी के साथ किया गया वादा मैंने झूठा कर दिया"?
English Commentary
Kaikeyi invokes the historical context of the boons. She refers to the battle against Shambarasura where she saved Dasharatha's life. She frames the narrative Dasharatha would have to tell the world: "I betrayed the woman who saved my life." She accuses him of potential ingratitude. By reminding him that his very life is a gift from her care (abhyapālayat), she argues that reneging on the boons is not just a breach of contract, but a profound moral failure to repay a life-debt.

यह श्लोक देवासुर संग्राम की उस घटना की ओर संकेत करता है जहाँ कैकेयी ने दशरथ के प्राण बचाए थे। कैकेयी उस 'ऋण' (debt) की याद दिला रही है। वह तर्क देती है कि मेरे जिस उपकार के कारण तुम आज जीवित हो, उसी के बदले दिए गए वचनों को तुम झूठा कर रहे हो। यह कृतघ्नता (ingratitude) का आरोप है। वह दशरथ को दर्पण दिखा रही है कि वे न केवल झूठे सिद्ध होंगे, बल्कि एहसान-फरामोश भी, जो एक राजा के लिए अत्यंत लज्जाजनक है।
