किल्बिषम् नरेन्द्राणाम् करिष्यसि नराधिप ।
यो दत्त्वा वरमद्यैव पुनरन्यानि भाषसे ॥२-१२-४२॥
kilbiṣam narendhrāṇām kariṣyasi narādhipa । yo dattvā varamadyaiva punaranyāni bhāṣase ॥2-12-42॥
Translation
O Lord of Men, you will bring a stain/sin upon the lineage of kings, you who, having granted a boon just today, are now speaking differently.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजाओं के स्वामी! तुम राजाओं के कुल पर कलंक (किल्बिष) लगाओगे, जो तुम आज ही वर देकर अब दूसरी (विपरीत) बातें कर रहे हो।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi attacks Dasharatha's inconsistency. Addressing him as Narādhipa (Ruler of Men), she asserts that wavering is a trait unfit for a king. To grant a boon in one moment and retract it in the next brings kilbiṣam (stain/sin) not just to him, but to the entire institution of kingship. She argues that consistency is the hallmark of royalty, and by attempting to back out, he is disgracing the glorious lineage of the Ikshvakus. She positions the keeping of the promise as a duty to his ancestors and his station.

कैकेयी दशरथ को 'नराधिप' (नर-अधिप) कहकर याद दिलाती है कि वे सामान्य मनुष्य नहीं, शासक हैं। शासक का वचन पत्थर की लकीर होता है। वर देकर तुरंत मुकर जाना ('पुनरन्यानि भाषसे') राजाओं के इतिहास में एक 'किल्बिष' (पाप/कलंक) होगा। वह कह रही है कि इक्ष्वाकु वंश, जो अपनी सत्यवादिता के लिए प्रसिद्ध है, दशरथ के कारण दूषित हो जाएगा। यह वंश की प्रतिष्ठा (Legacy) का प्रश्न है। कैकेयी यह सिद्ध करने का प्रयास कर रही है कि राम का वनवास रोकना कुल के सम्मान को मिट्टी में मिलाने जैसा है।
