भरतेनात्मना चाहम् शपे ते मनुजाधिप ।
यथा नान्येन तुष्येयमृते रामविवासनात् ॥२-१२-४९॥
bharatenātmanā cāham śape te manujādhip । yathā nānyena tuṣyeyamṛte rāmavivāsanāt ॥ ॥2-12-49॥
Translation
O Lord of Men (King), I swear to you by Bharata and by my own self that I shall not be satisfied by anything other than the exile of Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजा! मैं भरत की और अपनी शपथ लेकर कहती हूँ कि राम के वनवास के अतिरिक्त मैं किसी अन्य बात से संतुष्ट नहीं होऊंगी।
English Commentary
To seal her demand and prevent Dasharatha from negotiating, Kaikeyi swears the most solemn oath possible—upon herself and her son, Bharata. By invoking Bharata, she signals that her demand is ostensibly for his sake, but also that she is staking his very welfare on this outcome. This shuts the door on any compromise. She anticipates that the King might offer her jewels, more territory, or other compensations to save Rama, so she explicitly states that nothing short of 'Rama's exile' will satisfy her. It is a definitive ultimatum that leaves the King with no diplomatic room to maneuver; she has locked herself into this destructive path.

कैकेयी यहाँ अपनी बात को अंतिम और अटल रूप देने के लिए सबसे कठोर शपथ लेती है। एक माता के लिए अपनी संतान (भरत) की शपथ लेना इस बात का प्रमाण है कि वह अपने निर्णय से पीछे हटने वाली नहीं है। 'भरतेनात्मना' (भरत और अपनी आत्मा की शपथ) कहकर उसने राजा दशरथ के सामने सारे विकल्प बंद कर दिए हैं। वह जानती है कि राजा उसे धन, आभूषण या अन्य प्रलोभन देकर मनाने का प्रयास कर सकते हैं, इसलिए वह पहले ही स्पष्ट कर देती है कि 'राम के वनवास' (रामविवासनात्) के अलावा कोई भी समझौता संभव नहीं है। यह उसकी निष्ठुरता और संकल्प की पराकाष्ठा है।
