दीनया तु गिरा राजा इति होवाच कैकयिम् ।
अनर्थमिममर्थाभम् केन त्वमुपदर्शिता ॥२-१२-५६॥
dīnayā tu girā rājā iti hovāca kaikayim । anarthamimamarthābham kena tvamupadarśitā ॥ ॥2-12-56॥
Translation
Then, in a piteous voice, the King spoke to Kaikeyi: 'By whom have you been shown this calamity which appears like a benefit?'

तब राजा ने अत्यंत दीन वाणी में कैकेयी से कहा—"तुम्हें इस अनर्थ (विपत्ति) को, जो अर्थ (लाभ) जैसा प्रतीत होता है, करने का मार्ग किसने दिखाया है?"
English Commentary
Upon recovering partially, Dasharatha does not roar in anger but speaks in a 'piteous voice' (dinaya gira). He is still in denial that his beloved Kaikeyi could conceive of such malice on her own. He asks who instructed her, sensing an external influence. He shrewdly characterizes her demand as anartham imam arthabham—a calamity disguised as a benefit. He tries to reason with her by suggesting she is being misled into thinking this destructive path is actually profitable for her. It shows the King grappling for a rational explanation for this sudden insanity.

राजा दशरथ मूर्छा से जागने के बाद क्रोधित नहीं होते, बल्कि 'दीन' (बेचारे) बन जाते हैं। वे अभी भी यह मानने को तैयार नहीं हैं कि यह कैकेयी का अपना विचार है। वे पूछते हैं 'केन त्वमुपदर्शिता'—तुम्हें यह रास्ता किसने दिखाया? राजा का मानना है कि यह 'अनर्थ' (विनाश) है जो कैकेयी को 'अर्थ' (फायदेमंद) लग रहा है। यह प्रश्न मंथरा के षड्यंत्र की ओर संकेत करता है, जिसे राजा अभी तक नहीं जानते, पर उन्हें आभास हो गया है कि कैकेयी की बुद्धि को किसी ने भ्रमित किया है। यह उनकी असहायता और अविश्वास को दर्शाता है।
