Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामादपि हि तं मन्ये धर्मतो बलवत्तरम् ।
कथम् द्रक्ष्यामि रामस्य वनम् गच्छेति भाषिते ॥२-१२-६२॥
rāmādapi hi taṃ manye dharmato balavattaram । katham drakṣyāmi rāmāsyavanam gacheti bhāṣite ॥ ॥2-12-62॥
Translation
I consider him (Bharata) to be even stronger in righteousness (Dharma) than Rama. How shall I be able to look at Rama's face when the words "Go to the forest" are spoken?
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं भरत को धर्म के मामले में राम से भी अधिक बलवान (दृढ़) मानता हूँ। (जब मैं कहूँगा) 'वन जाओ', ऐसा कहे जाने पर मैं राम का (दुखी) चेहरा कैसे देख सकूंगा?
English Commentary
This verse offers profound praise for Bharata. Dasharatha asserts that Bharata's commitment to Dharma is even stronger than Rama's, implying that while Rama might obey the exile order out of duty, Bharata will refuse the crown out of righteousness. The second half of the verse shifts to Dasharatha's personal agony: the physical act of facing Rama. He dreads the moment of confrontation. The shame of having to utter the command "Go to the forest" to a son who expects a coronation is a humiliation Dasharatha feels he cannot survive.

दशरथ का यह कथन भरत के प्रति उनके गहरे सम्मान को दिखाता है। वे कहते हैं कि धर्म पालन में भरत राम से भी आगे हैं ('रामादपि... बलवत्तरम्'), इसलिए वे अधर्म से मिले राज्य को कभी नहीं छुएंगे। दूसरी ओर, राजा अपनी विवशता प्रकट करते हैं। जिस मुख को वे राजतिलक के समय चमकते हुए देखना चाहते थे, उसे वे वन जाने का आदेश कैसे देंगे? एक पिता के लिए अपने निर्दोष पुत्र की आँखों में देखकर उसे घर से निकालना मृत्यु से भी बदतर पीड़ा है।
