Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न मया सत्कृता देवि सत्कारार्हा कृते तव ।
इदानीम् तत्तपति माम् यन्मया सुकृतम् त्वयि ॥२-१२-७०॥
na mayā satkṛtā devi satkārārhā kṛte tava । idānīm tattapati mām yanmayā sūkṛtam tvayi ॥ ॥2-12-70॥
Translation
Because of you, I did not treat her (Kausalya) with the honor she deserved, though she was worthy of it. Now, whatever good/honor I bestowed upon you is burning me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे देवी (कौशल्या के संदर्भ में, या व्यंग्य में कैकेयी को)! तेरे कारण मैंने उस सत्कार-योग्य कौशल्या का (कभी) उचित सत्कार नहीं किया। तेरे प्रति मैंने जो 'सत्कार' (प्रेम/मान) किया, वह अब मुझे जला रहा है (ताप दे रहा है)।
English Commentary
Dasharatha admits his past failings. He confesses that due to his infatuation with Kaikeyi (kṛte tava - for your sake), he neglected Kausalya, who actually deserved the honor (satkārārhā). The irony strikes him hard: the kindness and favors (sukṛtam) he showered upon Kaikeyi have not yielded gratitude but have turned into the very fuel that is now scorching him (tapati). He realizes his investment in Kaikeyi was a mistake, and his neglect of Kausalya was a sin; the consequences of both are now converging to destroy him.

यह दशरथ का पश्चाताप (Confession) है। वे स्वीकार करते हैं कि कैकेयी के प्रेम में अंधे होकर उन्होंने कौशल्या की उपेक्षा की, जबकि वह सम्मान की असली हकदार थी ('सत्कारार्हा')। दूसरी पंक्ति बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है—'यन्मया सुकृतम् त्वयि' (जो मैंने तुम्हारे लिए अच्छा किया)। राजा को महसूस हो रहा है कि उन्होंने कैकेयी को जो लाड़-प्यार और वरदान दिए, वही अब आग बनकर उन्हें जला रहे हैं ('तपति माम्')। अत्यधिक मोह का परिणाम विनाश होता है, यह सत्य अब राजा के सामने है।
