न चिरम् जीवितुमाशंसे रुदतीम् चापि मैथिलीम् ।
सा नूनम् विधवा राज्यम् सपुत्रा कारयिष्यसि ॥२-१२-७५॥
na ciram jīvitumāśaṃse rudatīm cāpi maithilīm । sā nūnam vidhavā rājyam saputrā kārayiṣyasi ॥ ॥2-12-75॥
Translation
I do not hope to live long (without Rama) and seeing Maithili weeping. You will indeed rule the kingdom as a widow along with your son.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं (राम के बिना) और रोती हुई मैथिली (सीता) को देखकर अधिक समय तक जीने की आशा नहीं करता। (मेरे मरने के बाद) तू निश्चय ही विधवा होकर अपने पुत्र (भरत) के साथ राज्य करना।
English Commentary
This is a moment of bitter resignation and prophecy. Dasharatha declares that he has lost the will to live (na ciram jīvitum āśaṃse). He then delivers a scathing remark to Kaikeyi: she will get her kingdom, but the price will be her widowhood. By saying 'You will rule as a widow with your son,' he taints her victory. He highlights the hollowness of her ambition—she will gain the throne for Bharata but lose her husband in the process, ruling over a kingdom of mourning rather than celebration.

यह राजा दशरथ का कैकेयी को दिया गया अंतिम और सबसे कड़वा श्राप जैसा कथन है। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि उनका अंत निकट है। 'सा नूनम् विधवा' (वह तू निश्चय ही विधवा होकर)—ये शब्द कैकेयी की जीत को उसकी सबसे बड़ी हार में बदल देते हैं। जिस राज्य के लिए उसने सुहाग को दांव पर लगाया, वह उसे मिलेगा तो सही, लेकिन 'विधवा' बनकर। भारतीय नारी के लिए यह सबसे बड़ा अभिशाप माना जाता था। राजा उसे ताना मार रहे हैं कि लो, अब अपने बेटे के साथ राज करो, लेकिन मैं तुम्हें देखने के लिए जीवित नहीं रहूँगा।
