Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि प्रव्राजिते रामे देवि जीवितुमुत्सहे ।
सतीम् त्वामहमत्यन्तम् व्यवस्याम्यसतीम् सतीम् ॥२-१२-७६॥
na hi pravrājite rāme devi jīvitumutsahe । satīm tvāmahamatyantam vyavasyāmyasatīm satīm ॥ ॥2-12-76॥
Translation
O Devi! With Rama banished, I have no desire/energy to live. I judged you to be a virtuous woman (Sati), but (I realize now) I mistook a wicked woman (Asati) for a virtuous one.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे देवी! राम के वन भेजे जाने पर मैं जीवित रहने का उत्साह नहीं रख पा रहा हूँ। मैं तुम्हें सती (साध्वी) समझता था, किन्तु मैंने अनजाने में असती (दुष्टा) को सती समझ लिया।
English Commentary
Dasharatha confesses his fatal error in judgment. He admits that he completely misread Kaikeyi’s character. The play on words between satīm (virtuous/true) and asatīm (wicked/false) is central here. He laments that he treated a viper as a virtuous wife. This realization strips away the last remnants of his affection for her. He addresses her as 'Devi' perhaps ironically or out of habit, but the message is clear: his inability to distinguish her true nature from her facade has led to this ruin.

राजा दशरथ अपनी निर्णय क्षमता (Judgment) पर पछतावा कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने जीवन भर कैकेयी को 'सती' (पतिव्रता/साध्वी) माना, लेकिन आज उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि वह 'असती' (दुष्ट/कपटी) है। 'व्यवस्यामि' का अर्थ है 'निश्चय करना' या 'समझना'। राजा स्वीकार करते हैं कि यह उनकी भूल थी। बाहरी सुंदरता और मीठी बातों ने उन्हें भ्रमित रखा। यह श्लोक विश्वासघात की पीड़ा को उजागर करता है, जहाँ व्यक्ति को यह दुःख होता है कि वह जिसे प्यार करता था, वह वास्तव में एक छलावा था।
