इष्टे मम जने शेषे किम् पापम् प्रतिवत्स्यसे ।
कौसल्या माम् च रामम् च पुत्रौ च यदि हास्यति ॥२-१२-९०॥
Iṣṭe mama jane śeṣe kim pāpam prativatsyase । Kausalyā mām ca rāmam ca putrau ca yadi hāsyati ॥2-12-90॥
Translation
When my beloved people are left behind (in misery), what sin will you resolve to commit next? If Kausalya loses me, Rama, and her other sons (due to grief), what will remain?
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब मेरे प्रिय जन (कौशल्या, सुमित्रा आदि) शेष रह जाएंगे (दुःख भोगने के लिए), तब तुम और कौन सा पाप करोगी? यदि कौशल्या मुझे, राम को और अपने अन्य पुत्रों को खो देगी (तो वह कैसे जीवित रहेगी)?
English Commentary
Dasharatha questions the extent of Kaikeyi's cruelty. He asks, once the primary tragedies have occurred (his death and Rama's exile), what further sins she intends to commit against the remaining survivors (seshe). He focuses on Kausalya, anticipating her total devastation. By asking 'What sin will you commit next?', he implies that her current actions are already sinful and that ruling over a grieving, broken family will require a hardened, sinful heart. He is trying to show her that her 'victory' will be hollow and filled with the suffering of her relatives.

दशरथ कैकेयी से पूछ रहे हैं कि विनाश की यह श्रृंखला कहाँ रुकेगी? 'इष्टे मम जने शेषे' का अर्थ है कि राम के जाने और दशरथ के मरने के बाद जो परिजन बचेंगे, वे जीवित लाश के समान होंगे। दशरथ पूछ रहे हैं कि क्या कैकेयी उस टूटे हुए परिवार पर राज करके खुश होगी? क्या वह इसके बाद और भी कोई पाप करना चाहेगी? वे विशेष रूप से कौशल्या की चिंता करते हैं, जो पति और पुत्र दोनों को खोने वाली हैं। यह कैकेयी की अंतरात्मा को झकझोरने वाला प्रश्न है कि उसकी महत्वाकांक्षा की कीमत कितनी अधिक है।
