त्वम् राजपुत्रीवादेन न्यवसो मम वेश्मनि ।
अकीर्तिश्चातुला लोके ध्रुवः परिभवश्च मे ॥२-१२-९६॥
Tvam rājaputrīvādena nyavaso mama veśmani |
Akīrtiścātulā loke dhruvaḥ paribhavaśca me ॥2-12-96॥
Translation
Under the pretext of being a princess, you have been living in my house. Because of you, incomparable infamy and certain humiliation will befall me in this world.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम राजपुत्री (महान कुल की कन्या) के नाम और वेश में मेरे घर में रह रही थीं। (किंतु अब तुम्हारे कारण) लोक में मेरी अतुलनीय अपकीर्ति और निश्चित रूप से मेरा तिरस्कार होगा।
English Commentary
King Dasharatha expresses his profound feeling of betrayal. He accuses Kaikeyi of living in his home under the false pretense ('vāda') of being a princess. He implies that her actions are entirely contrary to the nobility expected of her lineage. Dasharatha is acutely aware of the social and dharmic repercussions of this moment. He foresees 'akīrti' (ill-repute) because the world will judge him for exiling his righteous son at the whims of a wife. 'Paribhava' suggests a total loss of dignity and a feeling of defeat. He realizes that by harboring her, he has unknowingly harbored the cause of his own disgrace.

यहाँ राजा दशरथ का कैकेयी के प्रति गहरा क्षोभ व्यक्त हो रहा है। वे कहते हैं कि उन्होंने कैकेयी को एक कुलीन 'राजपुत्री' समझकर अपने भवन में स्थान दिया था, यह मानते हुए कि उच्च कुल की कन्या में उच्च संस्कार होंगे। परन्तु कैकेयी का वर्तमान व्यवहार उस 'वाद' (छद्म या नाम) के विपरीत है। दशरथ को भविष्य की चिंता सता रही है कि एक स्त्री के कहने पर ज्येष्ठ पुत्र को त्यागने के कारण संसार में उनकी 'अकीर्ति' (बदनामी) होगी। 'परिभव' का अर्थ है अनादर या हार। दशरथ को लग रहा है कि धर्म और सत्य के मार्ग पर उनकी यह एक बहुत बड़ी पराजय है, जहाँ वे अपनी ही पत्नी के षड्यंत्र का शिकार हो गए हैं।
