Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवमुक्त्वा ततो राजा कैकेयीं सम्यताञ्जलिः ।
प्रसादयामास पुनः कैकेयीं चेदमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-१३-१९॥
Evamuktvā tato rājā Kaikeyīṃ samyatāñjaliḥ । Prāsādayāmāsa punaḥ Kaikeyīṃ cedamabravīt ॥ ॥2-13-19॥
Translation
Having spoken thus (in anger), the King then folded his hands together in supplication. He tried once again to propitiate Kaikeyi and spoke these words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कह कर (क्रोध व्यक्त करने के बाद), राजा ने फिर हाथ जोड़ लिए और कैकेयी को प्रसन्न करने का प्रयास करते हुए पुनः यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the tragic oscillation of a desperate mind. Just moments after ordering her away in fury, Dasharatha realizes that anger will not revoke the boons. In a heartbreaking display of humility motivated by paternal love, the Emperor folds his hands (samyatāñjaliḥ) before his wife. It highlights the power dynamics shifting entirely to Kaikeyi. Dasharatha sacrifices his royal dignity and pride, switching from command to beggary, solely in the hope of saving Rama from exile.

यह श्लोक मानव स्वभाव की विवशता का सजीव चित्रण है। पिछले श्लोक में राजा ने क्रोध में उसे जाने को कहा, किन्तु अगले ही क्षण उन्हें आभास हुआ कि क्रोध से कार्य नहीं बनेगा। राम को बचाने के लिए रघुकुल के चक्रवर्ती सम्राट अपनी ही पत्नी के सामने 'सम्यताञ्जलिः' (हाथ जोड़े हुए) खड़े हो जाते हैं। यह राजा की दयनीय स्थिति और पुत्र-प्रेम की पराकाष्ठा है। वे अपने स्वाभिमान को त्यागकर, शत्रु-तुल्य पत्नी के सामने पुनः गिड़गिड़ाने को विवश हैं, क्योंकि राम का भविष्य उनके अहंकार से अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है।
