Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रसीद देवि रामो मे त्वद्दत्तं राज्यमव्ययम् ।
लभतामसितापाङ्गे यशः परमवाप्नुहि ॥ ॥२-१३-२२॥
Prasīda devi Rāmo me tvaddattaṃ rājyamavyayam । Labhatāmasitāpāṅge yaśaḥ paramavāpnuhi ॥ ॥2-13-22॥
Translation
Be propitious, O Devi! Let my Rama receive this imperishable kingdom as a gift from you. O dark-eyed beauty, attain supreme fame (by doing this).
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे देवि! प्रसन्न हो जाओ। मेरे राम को तुम्हारे द्वारा दिया गया यह अव्यय राज्य प्राप्त हो। हे काले नेत्रों वाली (सुंदरी)! ऐसा करके तुम परम यश प्राप्त करो।
English Commentary
Dasharatha proposes a compromise to save face for everyone. He begs that Rama receives the kingdom, but emphasizes it should be seen as tvaddattam—given by Kaikeyi. This frames the coronation not as Dasharatha's will, but as Kaikeyi's generosity, offering her a chance to claim the moral high ground. He appeals to her desire for status by promising param yaśaḥ (supreme fame) if she relents. Even in this crisis, he uses romantic epithets (asitāpāṅge - dark-eyed one) to try and reach the wife within the adversary.
हिंदी टीका
दशरथ अब एक समझौता प्रस्तावित कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि राज्य राम को मिले, लेकिन यह माना जाएगा कि यह राज्य 'तुम्हारे द्वारा दिया गया' (त्वद्दत्तं) है। वे चाहते हैं कि राम का राज्याभिषेक कैकेयी की कृपा के रूप में हो, ताकि कैकेयी का मान भी रह जाए और राम का वनवास भी टल जाए। 'असितापाङ्गे' (काली आँखों वाली) सम्बोधन पुनः उनके मोह और अनुनय को दर्शाता है। वे उसे लोभ से हटाकर 'यश' (कीर्ति) की ओर प्रेरित करना चाहते हैं।
