त्वम् कत्थसे महाराज सत्यवादी दृढव्रत ।
मम चेमम् वरम् कस्मात् विधारयितुमिच्छसि ॥२-१३-३॥
Tvam katthase mahārāja satyavādī dṛḍhavrataḥ |
Mama cemam varam kasmāt vidhārayitumicchasi ॥2-13-3॥
Translation
"O Great King, you boast that you are a speaker of truth and firm in your vows. Why then do you wish to withhold this boon of mine?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे महाराज! तुम तो डींग हांकते (कत्थसे) थे कि तुम सत्यवादी और दृढवृती हो। तो फिर मेरा यह वरदान देने में (रोकने/टालने की) इच्छा क्यों कर रहे हो?"
English Commentary
Kaikeyi employs psychological manipulation. She mocks Dasharatha's reputation, using the word "katthase" (you boast/brag), implying his past claims of being "satyavādī" (truth-speaker) were mere empty talk. By questioning his integrity ("Why do you wish to withhold?"), she traps him. She forces him to choose between his love for his son and his identity as a righteous King. It is a calculated strike at his ego and moral foundation.

कैकेयी अब राजा के स्वाभिमान पर चोट कर रही है। वह व्यंग्यपूर्वक कहती है, "त्वम् कत्थसे" (तुम डींग मारते हो/बखान करते हो)। दशरथ को अपनी सत्यवादिता पर गर्व था, कैकेयी उसी को हथियार बनाती है। वह चुनौती देती है कि यदि तुम वास्तव में 'दृढव्रत' हो, तो हिचकिचा क्यों रहे हो? यह राजा को धर्मसंकट (dilemma) के उस कोने में धकेलने की चाल है जहाँ से वे राम को वन भेजे बिना बाहर नहीं निकल सकते।
