Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उद्भ्रान्तहृदयश्चापि विवर्णवदनोऽभवत् ।
स धुर्यो वै परिस्पन्दन् युगचक्रान्तरं यथा ॥ ॥२-१४-१२॥
Udbhrāntahṛdayaścāpi vivarṇavadano'bhavat । Sa dhuryo vai parispandan yugacakrāntaraṃ yathā ॥ ॥2-14-12॥
Translation
His heart became agitated and his face turned pale. He resembled a bull (beast of burden) struggling and trembling while caught between the yoke and the wheel.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राजा का हृदय व्याकुल हो गया और मुख का रंग उड़ गया (पीला पड़ गया)। उनकी स्थिति उस बैल (धुर्य) की भांति हो गई जो जुए (Yoke) और पहिए के बीच फंसकर छटपटा रहा हो।
English Commentary
Dasharatha's physiological reaction is visceral—his face drains of color (vivarṇavadano). The metaphor used is that of a dhurya (a draft animal/ox) caught between the yuga (yoke) and the chakra (wheel). This implies a state of panic and restricted movement. Just as an animal trapped in the machinery is helpless and trembling (parispandan), Dasharatha is crushed between the mechanism of his oath and the rolling wheel of destiny. It emphasizes his loss of agency; the King is now a beast of burden carrying the load of his past mistakes.

यहाँ दशरथ की शारीरिक और मानसिक अवस्था का चित्रण है। 'विवर्णवदनो' (चेहरे का रंग उड़ना) भय और शोक का लक्षण है। उपमा अत्यंत ग्रामीण और सजीव है: 'धुर्य' (भार ढोने वाला बैल) जो जुए और पहिए के बीच फंस गया है। न वह आगे बढ़ सकता है, न पीछे हट सकता है। यदि हिलेगा तो पहिए से चोट खाएगा। दशरथ भी धर्म (वचन) और प्रेम (पुत्र) के बीच पिस रहे हैं। यह उनकी घुटन और छटपटाहट (परिस्पन्दन्) का सटीक बिम्ब है।
