Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यस्ते मन्त्रकृतः पाणिरग्नौ पापे मया धृतः ।
तं त्यजामि स्वजं चैव तव पुत्रं सह त्वया ॥ ॥२-१४-१४॥
Yaste mantrakṛtaḥ pāṇiragnau pāpe mayā dhṛtaḥ । Taṃ tyajāmi svajaṃ caiva tava putraṃ saha tvayā ॥ ॥2-14-14॥
Translation
O sinful woman! The hand of yours that I held in the presence of the sacred fire with the recitation of Mantras—I renounce that hand! And I renounce your son (Bharata) born of you, along with you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पापिनी! विवाह के समय अग्नि के समक्ष मंत्रोच्चारण के साथ मैंने जो तुम्हारा हाथ पकड़ा था, (आज) मैं उसका त्याग करता हूँ। और तुम्हारे साथ-साथ तुम्हारे द्वारा उत्पन्न पुत्र (भरत) का भी त्याग करता हूँ।
English Commentary
This is the moment of total severance. Dasharatha performs a verbal divorce, nullifying the sacred rituals (mantrakṛtaḥ) of their wedding. Addressing her as Pāpe (O Sinful One), he renounces the hand he once held. More tragically, he extends this rejection to Bharata—tava putram (your son). By disowning Bharata "along with you," he delegitimizes Bharata's inheritance and familial bond. This impulsive renunciation complicates the succession crisis further, as Bharata is disinherited by his father right before being given the crown by his mother.

यह रामायण के सबसे कठोर श्लोकों में से एक है। राजा दशरथ कैकेयी के साथ अपना वैवाहिक संबंध तोड़ रहे हैं। 'पाणिग्रहण' (विवाह) को नकारते हुए वे कहते हैं कि अग्नि साक्षी थी, लेकिन अब मैं उस हाथ को 'त्यजामि' (त्यागता हूँ)। इससे भी बड़ी बात, वे निर्दोष भरत को भी 'स्वजं' (आत्मज/अपना पुत्र) होते हुए भी त्याग देते हैं। यह 'पितृ-त्याग' है। दशरथ का क्रोध इतना गहरा है कि वे कैकेयी के रक्त से जुड़े हर व्यक्ति से संबंध विच्छेद कर लेते हैं। यह भरत के भविष्य के लिए एक भारी शाप बन जाता है।
